Scoliosis & Chiropractic

Scoliosis causes an abnormal lateral curve in the spine. That curve creates uneven pressure on the joints, muscles, and nerves along the entire spinal column. Over time that pressure leads to muscle tightness, postural imbalance, discomfort, and a nervous system that has to work harder than it should.

Chiropractic care addresses the spine directly. Gentle, specific adjustments work to restore as much normal motion as possible to the affected joints, reduce the muscular tension caused by the curve, and relieve pressure on the nervous system.

How it works together

Chiropractic care works by restoring motion to the restricted joints. When the spine moves better, muscles don’t have to work as hard, pressure on the nervous system is reduced, and the body has a better chance of managing the curve rather than being managed by it.

The spine does two jobs — it holds your child upright and it protects the nervous system. When scoliosis is present, both jobs become harder. Joints that should move freely become restricted. Muscles on one side overwork to compensate. The nervous system, running through the center of it all, operates under constant mechanical stress.
