Asthma & Chiropractic Care

Asthma is a complex condition influenced by many factors environment, immune response, inflammation, and genetics among them. Spinal dysfunction is one additional factor that is often overlooked.

The nerves that control the muscles involved in breathing, the airways, and the lungs all travel through the spine. When there is a subluxation a joint in the spine that is restricted or not moving correctly — it can create interference along those nerve pathways. That interference doesn’t cause asthma, but it can be one of the factors that makes symptoms harder for the body to manage. Chiropractors are trained to identify and remove subluxations. By restoring proper spinal motion, we support the nervous system’s ability to function without that added layer of interference.

Kids often decrease their need for an inhaler, and report breathing easier after care.

Commonly asked questions:

Q: How does the spine relate to breathing and the lungs?

A: The nerves controlling the muscles involved in breathing and the airways travel through the thoracic spine — the mid-back. When joints in that region are restricted or subluxated, it can create interference along those nerve pathways. Restoring motion to those joints reduces that interference and supports better nervous system communication.  Restricted movement in the chest can decease inflation of the lungs.

Q: Can we do this alongside seeing our pediatrician or specialist?

A: Yes — and we encourage it. We are happy to be one part of your child’s care team and will communicate with other providers when it is helpful. A whole-child approach always produces the best outcomes.

Q: What results should we expect?

A: Every child is different. Some families notice improvements in breathing comfort, sleep, or overall wellbeing over time. We are honest about what chiropractic can and cannot do, and we will give you a realistic picture of what to expect after assessing your child.

Q: Do you take insurance?

A: No- insurance companies make it too hard to bill and get claims paid. So we work directly with our practice members to keep care almost at cost.
